PetsMD Acquired by Pet360

PetsMD, an Austin-based company that was part of the 2009 class of Capital Factory, announced today their acquisition by Pet360, a leading Pet ecommerce, community and information company. The acquisition of this pet health information and care resource site reinforces Pet360’s position as a leading provider of comprehensive, all-inclusive online information for pet owners and pet services providers.

“We are excited to further strengthen our relationship with Pet Parents across the United States by providing a single location for all their pet needs beyond the Vet office,” said Brock Weatherup, CEO of Pet360. “As we strive to be the one-stop-shop for any and all pets, the addition of these great assets & tools aligns beautifully with our existing pet sites: http://www.petmd.com, http://www.petfooddirect.com, and http://www.nationalpetpharmacy.com.

The acquisition includes PetsMD features and capabilities, including a library of online clinical information, it’s web-based pet Symptom Checker and iPhone application.  Pet360 plans to integrate PetsMD content to its consumer-facing sites to strengthen Pet360’s online network.  These are all expected to be added to Pet360’s extensive set of capabilities over the next 90 days.

“There is a great team of folks at Pet360, whose business focus and vision matches ours: put more power and information into the hands of pet owners where, how and when they want it, so more of their time can go to the enjoyment of their pet,” said Tina Cannon, co-founder and COO of PetsMD.

“Post-acquisition, we are looking at options to continue working with Pet360 to service pets and their owners in even more and better ways,” Raul Calvoz, CEO of PetsMD, stated. “PetsMD’s synergies with Pet360 are hard to overstate. This is a great deal for all concerned. We couldn’t be happier.”

PetsMD, established in 2008, provided pet owners with in-depth veterinary information to better educate pet lovers, along with real-time online pet appointment booking branded Book-A-Vet.

PetsMD Brings In CEO

PetsMD Inc., a leading provider of online veterinary healthcare content and services, announced today that Raul Calvoz has joined the company as Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board of Directors.

“Raul’s contribution to PetsMD as a member of our Advisory Board for the last year has been outstanding,” said Tina Cannon Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer. “His entrepreneurial online experience as Vice President with Travelocity has been invaluable in helping to sharpen PetsMD’s strategic focus. While his strategic abilities are fantastic, our decision to bring him on as CEO was also motivated by his strong execution skills, as demonstrated by the conversion, sales and inventory growth he drove for Travelocity.”

“I am very excited to join PetsMD,” said Calvoz. “Veterinary care and pet services are a $15 Billion market in the U.S. alone. And right now, all of those appointments are booked by telephone. PetsMD provides consumers with best-in-class pet healthcare information on PetsMD.com. For many consumers, this information leads them to seek out assistance from veterinary and pet services professionals. Connecting consumers to veterinary and pet services providers via a SaaS model for online booking is going to revolutionize lead generation and booking in the sector,” said Calvoz.

Prior to joining the PetsMD, Mr. Calvoz served as General Manager of Picosa Investments, LLC (an early stage venture firm) and has served on the Board of Advisors of PetsMD since January 2010.

From 2005-2009, Mr. Calvoz and his family lived in Europe, during which time he served as Vice President and Executive Committee Member for Travelocity in its London headquarters and received the Sabre Holdings (parent company of Travelocity), Sam Gilliland CEO Award for Outstanding Leadership.

Mr. Calvoz has also served as In-house Counsel to 3M Company, where he acted as lead attorney to several 3M Divisions with over $1 Billion in revenue, and handled general corporate matters, high-level negotiations and mergers & acquisitions. While at 3M, he was promoted to Global Business Manager, where he headed a 3M Electronics business with over $100 Million in revenue, 380 employees and seven factories.

Before joining 3M, Mr. Calvoz worked for eight years as a trial lawyer and Litigation Partner specializing in civil matters.

PetsMD Launches iPhone App

PetsMD.com, the number one name in free online pet health information, today unveiled their newest consumer friendly feature, the PetsMD Symptom Checker iPhone Application. “Our users have told us that they love the Symptom Checker application and want to take it with them on their iPhone,” says Tina Cannon, President and CEO. “Pet owners wanted to have the health information they need at their fingertips, at the park, the river, camping or wherever they take their pet.”

“Quality vet approved content is important to our users and making PetsMD Symptom Checker app was a natural progression for us at PetsMD,” says, Christi Scovel, Chief Veterinary Editor. “We want to be with pet lovers, wherever the adventure takes them.”

Over the past few months, PetsMD partnered with Phunware and spent countless hours designing and developing the Symptom Checker iPhone application. The result is a fully functional feature that allows pet owners to have key health information at their fingertips. PetsMD’s Mobile Symptom Checker helps you be better informed and make the right decisions — on demand when you need it most. Whether you’re out at the park, on the lake, at home or on the go, PetsMD’s Mobile Symptom Checker is there for both you and your pets. By the time you decide to make a trip to the vet, you will be better informed and make the right decisions to help your pet live a longer, healthier and happier life. When in doubt, always talk things over with your veterinarian. PetsMD gives you the tools to have a better dialogue with your vet but does not replace professional diagnosis and treatment. Always seek the advice of your veterinarian.
