Lean Startup Machine is proud to be holding an Austin workshop the weekend of September 21-23. This 54 hour experience is less about the startup weekend model of hackathon and product conceptualization, and about following its own unique process of validating a business idea through product, customer, and business model development. 50 participants will spend the weekend with 20 Austin business leaders donating their time as mentors. Registration is $299 for the workshop, open at: leanstartupmachine.com/events/austin-september-21-23/
With so many hackathons and incubation exercises, over summers, or weekends, or a few hours out there for aspiring entrepreneurs, the Lean Startup Machine model was deliberately built differently. There is no hacking or coding, rather the workshops focus is on teaching participants a process that drills into fundamentals such as product, customer, and business model development. The goal: by the end of the weekend to have reliably validated a new product or service concept.
“Our mission is to further the science of entrepreneurship and Austin is the ideal place for our Lean Startup Machine workshops,” said CEO and Founder, Trevor Owens, who also founded Tech@NYU, NYU Startup Week and co-created HackNY Hackathon. “In our test experience last April, and all our interactions to date with this community, response has been so favorable. We anticipate this Austin workshop to bring forward some amazing results, that’s just how ATXers roll!”
Lean Startup Machine has now held over 50 workshops since it began July 2010 with success in 20 cities, across 5 continents, such as NYC, London, Palo Alto, Toronto, Sao Paulo, Singapore and Paris. It now brings its first full fledged workshop to Austin Sept 21-23, to be held at HubAustin. The Austin coordinator, Jonathan Van, is a co-founder of UT Entrepreneurship Week and, as a UT student, has worked with the 1 Semester Startup classes.
Van helped bring together 20 amazing Austin-area mentors donating their time to be part of the weekend. Friday night Keynoter, Dr. Bob Metcalfe, is one mentor, joined by other influencers such as Joshua Baer, Jason Cohen, Kevin Koym, Zaz Floreani, Laura Kilcrease and Damon Clinkscales.
By Sunday night, participants will present their learnings, its hypothesis and then experience using the process. An ultimate winning team of the Austin Lean Startup Machine workshop will be named, judged on the quality and insights culled from applying the process. The winning team will take home prizes valued at more than $3,500
including a seat in the TechRanch Venture Forth program, entrance into MWR Legal’s Startup Program and 10 hours of consulting on product outsourcing and agency selection from ContractIQ.
