When you combine athletic prowess, entrepreneurial drive and technical genius, you’ve just created the ultimate competitor. On Saturday, June 9, eight Austin startups – Adlucent, Boundless Network, BuildASign.com, Mass Relevance, SpareFoot, Spredfast, uShip and WhaleShark Media – will put those skills to the test in the Summer Startup Olympics.
Kicking off at noon at Krieg Softball Complex (515 South Pleasant Valley Road), participating companies will seek the glory, vying for gold, silver and bronze medals in summer sporting events including kickball, basketball, tug-of-war, sprint, dizzy bat, sack race, egg-in-spoon race, three-legged race, and tetherball.
In addition to bragging rights, companies will compete in the private, five-hour challenge for charity. Each has selected an organization to which prize money will be awarded, including Austin Children’s Museum, Austin Pets Alive, Austin Pro Bono, Capital Area Food Bank, Communities in Schools of Central Texas, the Entrepreneurs Foundation of Central Texas, Kure It, and Livestrong/Lance Armstrong Foundation.
An awards ceremony and after-party will directly follow the competition, starting at 5:30 p.m. at Krieg Softball Complex. These events are sponsored by Deep Eddy Vodka and will be open to the public.
This event marks the second installment of the Austin Startup Olympics and features sponsorships from Austin Ventures, Consero, Kastner Huggins and Silicon Valley Bank. The inaugural games, hosted in January of this year, featured a 10-game challenge and raised more than $2250 for charity.
