If you want to read the playbook on how to grow your technology startup, you could do worse than paying attention to FeedMagnet.

We first wrote about FeedMagnet back in late 2009 when they launched their private beta. Back then people were just beginning to understand Facebook and Twitter, but the team at FeedMagnet was already looking past adoption and into curation. They saw the growing traffic on the public social networks and could see that gathering, filtering, and moderating these messages was going to be essential to brands.

In early 2010 we featured FeedMagnet in our Technology Spotlight at Austin Tech Happy Hour.

For the past two years they have been steadily expanding product functionality, adding more social sources to the product, and more flexible moderation tools. In addition, they have been closing deals with some of the largest and most influential brands in the country such as GE, AMD, McDonalds, Dow, and Logitech. The gallery of solutions they have developed is growing and impressive.

People love to write about which technology companies are going to “break out” at SXSW ever since Twitter did it in 2007. But remember that Twitter had a pretty unfair advantage in that they had flat screens all over the convention center. You can’t buy that kind of visibility (well, maybe you can, but….). My prediction is that FeedMagnet is going to “break out” at SXSW 2012, and here’s why.

You’re going to be seeing FeedMagnet everywhere at SXSW. Their social aggregation and curation tools will be powering the realtime social displays at the Mashable House, the Dachis Group Social Business Summit, the Spredfast Kickoff Party, and the Ignite Social Media Party, just to name a few.

I’m looking forward to great things from FeedMagnet, and SXSW 2012 could just be the tipping point for this patient and focused company.
