Accelerate Your Cloud Infrastructure Company

If you are building a platform-as-a-service (PaaS) or infrastructure-as-a-service  (IaaS) company, there are some great resources for you courtesy of TechStars Cloud and Rackspace. I asked Jason Seats for a guest blog post on the subject. Jason is a founder of Slicehost (acquired by Rackspace) and also TechStars Cloud Manager.

You have heard of TechStars in Boulder, New York, Seattle and Boston and now we have one here in our back yard. Two weeks ago we announced TechStars Cloud, the first thematic accelerator that is focusing on cloud technologies.  In all locations, TechStars now offers 118k per company in funding at the start of the program and will choose approximately 10 companies to participate each session.

For TechStars Cloud, we are looking for cloud infrastructure companies. In particular, we want companies that are building on or extending OpenStack, OpenFlow, OpenCompute, but also those building security appliations, hosting services, datacenter automation, big data tools and dev ops. In short we are targeting IaaS (infrastructure as a servcie) and PaaS (platform as a service), however we are open to selecting SaaS (software as a service) companies that are particularly innovative. We are most interested in startups that are *building* the cloud versus startups that are building *on* the cloud.

We’ve assembled (and are still assembling) an amazing group of mentors for the program that have key expertise in both hosting and cloud.  Chosen applicants will live in San Antonio from January to April of 2012 and work with mentors such as Pat Condon (Founder, Rackspace Hosting), Jeff Lawson (Founder/CEO, Twilio), Brad Feld (Foundry Group), George Karidis (CSO, SoftLayer), Rajat Bhargava (Founder/CEO, StillSecure), Rueven Cohen (Founder, Enomaly), Lance Wally (Founder Engineyard/Chargify), Sott Petry (Founder, Postini/Authentic8), and Matthew Prince (Founder, CloudFlare).

Turn in your application [] by October 21st for priority consideration, with a final application deadline of November 2nd, 2011.
